Outdoor movies on the waterfront: Drive in or lawn seating

EVERETT – Prepare the blankets, lounge chairs and station wagons for another summer with free drive-in outdoor movies at Everett Harbor.

The port has announced attendance rules for a six-movie lineup on Friday night starting July 16 at Boxcar Park, Millwright Loop W, Everett.

Last year, the district scrapped the usual Sail-In cinema screenings because of the COVID-19 pandemic and distancing guidelines. Instead, it housed a drive-in theater that was limited with 3m between each vehicle and required reservations made within six days of launch.

“We are pleased to welcome the community back to Boxcar Park in a hybrid format that will enable us to meet the growing demand for this free outdoor event while also increasing the comfort of our participants when they return to personal events take into account, “said port spokesman Cat Soper said in a press release.

For the sixth annual Sail-in-Kino this year, the harbor offers lawn seats and vehicle space. Only drive-in guests need to reserve seats at www.portofeverett.com/sailin. Reservations open on Thursday July 1st.

The port decided to release the dates and movies ahead of the reservations opening based on how quickly seats were claimed over the past year, Soper said. The vehicle spots are staggered for an improved screen view, with enough space for at least 100 cars per night.

But the revised layout restricts boaters’ view of the North Docks. Boaters can moor at North Guest Dock 6 of the harbor and watch from the park.

The films include action, cartoons, and a romantic comedy:

9.15 p.m. July 16: “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” (PG-13)

9:05 p.m. July 23: “Sleepless in Seattle” (PG)

8:55 pm July 30th: “Dunkirk” (PG-13)

8:45 pm August 6: “Raya & the last dragon” (PG)

8:35 pm August 13: “Princess & the Frog” (G)

8:25 pm August 20th: “The Rookie” (D)

People looking to secure seats can do so an hour before Showtime at Boxcar Park, where they can listen to music, play court games, get free popped popcorn and buy snacks. There will also be a rotating food truck and beer garden hosted by the Mukilteo Chamber for the 21 and over audience.
