🌱 Small businesses pay reduced fees + no huge rent increases

Here are the top stories in Spokane today:

  1. Spokane City Council Unanimously decided to postpone an increase in business registration fees and agreed to lower the fee amount for start-ups. In justifying its decision, the council said it hoped “to accommodate small business owners rather than increasing costs and to give new businesses a head start”. New businesses will now pay $ 60 for the registration fee from February 1, 2022 through the end of 2022. (KXLY Spokane)
  2. Landlords who accept rental subsidies would, according to a proposal, be prohibited from increasing the rent Spokane City Council president Breean Beggs on Monday.
    One year after receiving the rent subsidy, a landlord may not increase the rent by more than the inflation rate and must cancel this in writing at least 90 days in advance. The proposal would also protect tenants from eviction if some of the unpaid rent is from March 2020 to July 2021 and they have applied for rental allowance. (The speaker’s report)

  4. Providence health care reported 97% of staff in hospitals and clinics in Spokane and Stevens Counties have complied with the governor Jay Inslees Vaccine Mandate. (KREM.com)
