Everett School to be on the auction block Dec. 9

Everett School on Gibbs Avenue will be auctioned on December 9th along with property the city has confiscated for unpaid taxes.

The school, built in 1918, served as a grammar school, kindergarten, substitute school and, most recently, as an office.

The building has been vacant for the past few years, although the property at 15 Gibbs Ave. has been repaired with grants from 2015.

The school is a distinctive building with ample parking and is in a busy area near Town Green, noted Select board member Alan Slavin. The property borders on a historical district, but is not in it.

The appraisal department has valued the building at $ 315,100.

The Select Board voted to declare the building obsolete and dispose of it.
