Spark Central is celebrating five years as a hub for creativity in Spokane

SPOKANE, Washington – Spark Central is a nonprofit that ignites the creativity, innovation, and imagination people need to pave the way to their best futures.

The nonprofit breaks down barriers to creativity such as cost, trust, and access by offering transformative programs, access to innovative technology, and a welcoming creative community for youth, youth, and even adults from all economic backgrounds.

From August 24-28, Spark Central is celebrating 5 years of creativity, innovation and imagination with a series of free community programs!

VIRTUAL REALITY GAME TIME

TUESDAY, AUGUST 24TH 1 PM – 5 PM

Explore the planet, play games or create art in 3D with our HTC Vive virtual reality equipment. To ensure the health and safety of all participants, the game time is limited to 20 minutes. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a family member aged 13 or over.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25TH 1 PM – 3 PM

Every age · Dip your toes in fashion design and show your style! Bring your own costume pieces or choose from pieces at Spark Central, then make your own accessories to complete your outfit. From 2:30 p.m. we take turns strutting across the runway for the cameras.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25th 5pm – 6.30pm

Every age · Girls Rock Lab Camp attendees will perform in the Nest, an outdoor space in Kendall Yards! Be there when our young musicians share what they have created with their bands. We also welcome Girls Rock Lab alumni bands for a night of music and creativity.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 26th 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm

Every age · Play for prizes in a bingo game that celebrates Spark Central’s five year history. Bingo cards will consist of past and current programs and publications from Spark Central. The award ceremony is limited to one per participant and the game ends early when all prizes have been won.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 26th 6pm – 7.30pm

Every age · Come with us to an open microphone on the subject of creativity and resilience. Adults, teenagers and children are welcome to share written works, songs or even short performances! Registrations for the Open Mic will open at 5:45 p.m.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 27TH 5PM – 8PM

Every age · Meet staff, volunteers and members of the Spark Central creative community to share and reflect on five years of creativity, innovation and imagination for everyone! Refreshments will be provided.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 28th 3pm – 6.30pm

Every age · Enjoy free birthday cupcakes and make your own serving of ice cream as we celebrate Spark Central’s fifth birthday! Up to five people can use a rock salt trick to prepare ice cream at the same time. While you wait for your turn, check out a creative kit, make us a birthday card, or pick out a few books to take home with you. Children have priority to make ice cream, but everyone gets a cupcake!

JOINT ART PROJECT: WINDOW DISPLAY

TUESDAY, AUGUST 24 – SATURDAY, AUGUST 28, 12 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Draw your own artwork or write your own poem to add to Spark Central’s window display, which is all about creativity and resilience. You don’t have to be a professional artist or poet to have your work exhibited – works by children, teenagers and adults of all ages are welcome.
