Warren Brooks Obituary (1926 – 2022) – Napa, CA

Warren Eugene Brooks

1926 – 2022

Warren Eugene Brooks, fondly known as Elmer, died of old age on February 9, 2022. He was 95 years old. His spirit was willing but his body just gave out.

He was born on September 9, 1926 in Vancouver Washington. He was the oldest of 8 children (Monty, Larry, Margie, Richard, Clara, Ron & Carol) born to Dewey and Minnie (Mann) Brooks. He is survived by Clotille, his wife of 74 years, 3 sons, Michael, Joseph and Jonathan, 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

As a boy, his family was poor and followed the crops as pickers. At 17, he lied about his age to join the Navy in World War II and served proudly on a “tin-can” during the Philipinnes and Okinawa campaigns. After the war, he came to Napa, met Clotille (Mullins) and they married on December 7, 1947. He worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as an electrician and later in Planning/Estimating and Design.

As a young man, he built the family house from a one room cabin on First Avenue. He was active in sports. He was a good fast-pitch softball pitcher and managed the Alta Heights Termites to the Napa Fly League baseball championship in 1960.

He retired in 1980 and they began traveling the country in their 5th wheel while pursuing their interest in genealogy. Elmer and Clo were on the go for several years before settling in Gresham Oregon in 2004. They returned to Napa in 2012.

Elmer had an inquisitive mind and filled his time with several projects – many of which he finished. He had a sunny disposition and made friends easily. He was well liked and will be missed.

No services are planned.
