One person dies after a car accident in Spokane County on Saturday

A man died Saturday after his vehicle hit a tree while driving on West Charles Road, officials said.

At around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies received a call from someone saying a car had hit a tree and the driver, who was the only person in the car, was trapped, according to a sheriff press release from Spokane County.

The crash caused so much damage that Spokane County Fire had to rescue the person and take him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Spokane County Transportation Department investigators opened an investigation into the accident. According to the press release, the vehicle drove east on West Charles Road, then turned and crashed into a tree.

The local court has not yet publicly identified the victim.
