John Weddle Obituary (1944 – 2022) – Springfield, OR

John Hugh Weddle II of Oakridge passed away April 27, 2022, at the age of 77. John was born on May 6, 1944, in Vancouver, Washington to Marie “Chic” (Greenwood) and Leonard Leroy “Larry” Weddle.
John graduated from South Eugene High School in 1962, then attended the University of Oregon. He was involved in ROTC and graduated with a with bachelor’s degree in accounting. He served as an Officer in the US Air Force for four years and participated in the Air Force Reserves for an additional 12 years.
John owned and operated several businesses in Oakridge and the surrounding communities, such as, Sportsman’s Café 1970-2009, Willamette Lanes Bowling Alley in Oakridge, ABC Amusements, and J&W Amusements. He always found joy in the daily interactions with the residents and visitors that he crossed paths with.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing and all the outdoor recreation Oakridge has to offer. He was a faithful member of the Oakridge Nazarene Church Family. John enjoyed volunteering for many different groups in Oakridge including the Lions Club, Booster club, American Legion, the School Board, and the Oakridge Food Box. He deeply loved God, his family, and his country.
He is preceded in death by his Mother Marie “Chic” Weddle, Father Leonard Weddle, Sister Sandra Stewart, and Granddaughter Kayla Martin.
John is survived by his wife Vera Weddle of Oakridge, Oregon, his children, Genny Martin of Drain, Oregon, Gregg and Lyssa of Oakridge, Oregon, Liz and Don Powell of Sherwood, Oregon, Larry Weddle of Cantwell, Alaska, Sam and David Nelson of Sherwood, Oregon and John and Christina Weddle of Yreka, CA.
John is survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren Trevor Martin; Whitney, Tony and Wyatt Ward; Gage and Voss Burton; Randy, Megan, Bennett and Owen Powell; Sean Powell; Brenna, Trevor and Gracie Hewitt; Parker Landau; Liz, Mark, Zack and Alex Nelson; and Johnny and Kaleb Weddle.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 21, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the Oakridge Nazarene Church. The Weddle Family has established the John H Weddle Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations can be made at First Tech Federal Credit Union in Oakridge under John’s name or you can contact his family.
