In fond memory of Arthur Eugene “Gene” Ellis

Arthur Eugene “Gene” Ellis died on January 7th, 2021. He led a wild and colorful life as a combat photographer, TV cameraman, artist, bus driver and coffee drinker. He lived in Battle Ground for the past few years and was an integral part of the Old Town Battle Grounds / Hidden River Roasters, where he was found surrounded by his curmudgeons for most of days, trying to solve the world’s problems. With no family in the immediate vicinity, Gene was cared for by half of Battle Ground. He loved trading favors by offering his watercolor and oil paintings. Full of stories and wisdom, if you knew Gene, you were truly blessed.

A celebration in honor of Gene’s life takes place on November 6th from 9am to 12pm at the Hidden River Roasters. Some of Gene’s artwork will be available with lots of artist samples for anyone wanting a piece for Gene to remember. Please come over and say hello and toast Gene (aka Waya Ditka, veteran, father, friend) with a cup of Java.
