Evelyn Marie (Guunáani) Shields, 76, died in Saxman on November 3, 2021.
She was born on September 10, 1945 in Saxman.
Not only did she live in Saxman for 60 years, but she also lived in Chicago; Seattle; Everett, Washington; and Vancouver, Washington.
Evelyn Shields was a housewife. She was also an Avon employee and worked in canning factories and household chores. She volunteered with seniors in the community.
She was a member of the Salvation Army and Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 15.
She loved beading and sewing, crocheting, flea markets, traditional family reunions, senior meals, traveling and spending time with the grandchildren.
Evelyn Shields had preceded her father Albert Shields Sr. in death; Mother, Martha Schilde; Brothers, Frank Howard Jr., Frederick John, Albert Shields Jr., and Lawrence Shields Sr .; Sisters Cecelia White, Alvina Martinez, and Priscilla Dewitt; Daughters Julie Wasuli and Dorothy “Doe” Garza-Guthrie; and grandson David A. Blair Jr.
She is survived by her sister Sarah Abbott von Saxman; Brothers Harvey (Joyce) Shields of Saxman and Richard (Tanya) Shields of Saxman; Son, David (Leota) Guthrie of Ketchikan; Daughters, Cheryl Guthrie of Ketchikan and Evelyn (William) Bryant of Saxman; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Red Hall in Saxman, led by Rev. Jeff White. A night watch will accompany the funeral service. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the Red Hall in Saxman, followed by a funeral service starting on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at approximately 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Bayview Cemetery, officiated by Major Jos Govaars.
