Robert D. Schilling | Leader of Port Townsend

Robert D. (Herm) Schilling was born on March 7, 1943 in Vancouver, Washington to Herman (Sonny) Schilling and Annabell (Pearsall). The family moved to Orofino shortly after he was born. In 1961 he graduated from high school. Herm passed away peacefully on November 3, 2021 at the age of 78.

He married Marilyn (Ward) and served in the Air Force for four years. They had two children, Jacqueline Kay and Herman R. Schilling. They were married 10 years.

Herm married Kathy Newhouse and they have two children, Sean D. and Stephanie K.

He leaves his sister Gloria (Schilling) Goade of Boise, Idaho; and brother Les Schilling of Orofino; and Vicki (Buchert) Schilling from Elk River. He also leaves his wife, Kathy.

He leaves numerous grandchildren, including Nick and David Heath from Gilbert, Arizona, and Danika, Darby and Desney Schilling from Phoenix, Ariz.

Herm worked at Pepsi-Cola for 10 years and then went to Farmers Insurance in Lewiston, Idaho. He worked there as an agent and was then transferred to Renton, Washington, as a district manager.

He retired to Escapees Retirement Park in Chimacum, Washington.

Herm loved salmon fishing, was a bingo caller, and was fond of billiards, pinochle and cribbage. He worked in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, where he served as a resource manager for two terms. He was active in the retirement park and was president there.

He was always known for his sharp wit and good conversationalist. He is missed and loved by many. In the spring there is a church service where friends and family can gather.
