Apryl (Hanson) Smith | Obituaries

Brookside Funeral Home & Crematorium

Apryl (Hanson) Smith was born April 8, 1954 in Vancouver, Washington, to Gordon and Luella Hanson and was called into the presence of the Lord Jesus at home in Yakima on May 31, 2021.

Apryl’s parents taught them to love Jesus, his Bible, and to teach children about him. She attended schools in Mount Vernon, Spokane, Yakima and eventually Bible College in Three Hills, Alberta and Portland, Oregon. She taught God’s Word to children in the West Side and Sun Valley churches. She later worked in Senior Respite Care programs and ended her career as a caregiver for a young adult client.

As a Christian missionary in Colombia, South America, she met Dennis Smith. They fell in love and were married in Christ for 41 years.

Full of zest for life, she enjoyed crocheting, quilting and cooking. She and Dennis teamed up to host many in their home. Dennis loved her kitchen … Apryl loved the products from his garden!

As a Type 1 diabetic, Apryl honored the Lord’s goodness towards her by being cheerful, not complaining, and thinking of others. Your calm mind is missed!

Her parents Gordon and Luella Hanson and her older brother Kimball precede her in death. She leaves behind her husband Dennis Smith, son Matthew Smith and wife Lisa, brother Jeff Hanson and their family, and sister Beth Taylor and family.

Dennis thanks the Church Family at SunValley Church and the staff at Heartlinks Hospice Care for their assistance in caring for Apryl.

A memorial service in honor of God for his love for Apryl is scheduled for Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at SunValley Church (2002 E. Mead Ave., Union Gap). Commemorative donations can be made to the Child Evangelism Fellowship or Union Gospel Mission and sent to the Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936) to look after the family.
