Woman fatally shot in Alameda, suspect arrested

ALAMEDA — A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old woman Sunday in Alameda, authorities said.

The woman’s name has not yet been released.

The woman was found shot just before 9 pm Sunday on the 1800 block of Everett Street, a residential neighborhood near Eagle Avenue. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Police were able to identify the suspect as 19-year-old Donovann Sanders Jr., who was arrested Thursday in Tracy, authorities said.

Police have not yet said if he knew the woman or what the motive was for the shooting.

Sanders is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of murder and other charges. He had not been formally charged as of Friday morning. He is scheduled to be arranged in court on Monday.
