Wolves Travel To Spokane To Compete In GNAC Indoor Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Western Oregon University men’s and women’s track and field teams will bring a lot of top marks in the conference this season with them to The Podium in Spokane for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships this Monday and Tuesday.

Entering the Championships, WOU has 90 marks that currently rank in the top 25 in the GNAC and 17 that are in the top five.

Ana Popchock, after setting a school record in the 60 hurdles, holds the top time in the GNAC in the event with a time of 8.83 that she set at the WSU Open.

Jenelle Hurley also set a school record in the pentathlon this indoor season and holds the top mark in the GNAC with 3,436 points set at the WSU Invitational.

Hunter Hutton is third in the GNAC in the mile with a time of 4:07.05 he set this past week at the Husky Classic.

Caitlin Heldt is second and third in the GNAC in a pair of events. She holds the second fastest time in the 5,000 coming across at 17:43.91 at the UW Invite. Heldt’s time of 10:07.50 in the 3,000 is third in the GNAC set at the Husky Classic.

Hurley has the second-best mark in the GNAC in the long jump reaching a distance of 18-3.25 at the UW Invite. Macy Clemens is eighth in the event in the GNAC with a mark of 17-0.5 set at the WSU Open, while Deters holds the 10th-best mark in the GNAC in the event at 16-9.75 set at the Portland Indoor #2.

Popchock has the second-best mark in the triple jump reaching a distance of 36-10.5 at the WSU Open. Kalulusno Ngaida is fifth in the GNAC in the triple jump with a mark of 35-6.75 set at the Portland Indoor #2. Logan Jackson and Clemens also want to enter the event for the Wolves.

Moana Gianotti’s throw of 42-10.25 ranks second in the GNAC in the shot put set during the Spokane Invitational. Liliana Lyness-Morales is ninth in the GNAC in the event with a throw of 35-10 set at the Spokane Invitational. Halle Hargett and Emillia Carpenter also want to compete in the event for the Wolves.

Marlon Harrison’s mark of 44-3.5 in the triple jump ranks second in the GNAC that he set during Portland Indoor #2. Jacob Flurry is 10th in the GNAC in the event and Gabe Burchfield will enter the event for the first time this indoor season.

Owen Collins’ throw of 47-4.5 in the shot put ranks third in the GNAC set at the WSU Open. Sam Cole is sixth in the GNAC in the event hitting a distance of 45-3 set at the UW Invite. Mark Warren is right behind ranking eighth in the GNAC with a throw of 43-11.25 set at the WSU Open.

Amity Deters’ mark of 5-4.25 in the high jump is good for fourth in the GNAC set during the UW Invite. Hurley enters the event with the sixth-best mark in the GNAC at 5-3.75 set during the pentathlon at the WSU Invitational. Ngaida enters the event with the eighth-best mark.

Cole and Collins rank fourth and fifth in the GNAC in the weight throw with Cole hitting a distance of 51-7.75 at the Husky Classic and Collins reaching a distance of 51-3 at the Portland Indoor #2. Warren enters the event ranked seventh in the GNAC with a 49-2.25 set at the Husky Classic.

Gianotti also ranks fourth in the GNAC in the weight throw hitting a distance of 49-4.25 at the Spokane Invitational. Morales enters the event ranked seventh in the GNAC with a mark of 47-4.5 set at the Spokane Invitational. Carpenter enters the event ranked 12th in the GNAC and Hargett enters the event ranked 20th in the GNAC.

The women’s 4×400 relay team ranks fifth in the GNAC with a time of 4:10.61 set at the UW Preview.

Justin Conklin is tied for fifth in the GNAC in the high jump with a mark of 6-4.75. Devin Hasher enters the event ranked ninth in the GNAC and Burchfield enters the event ranking 10th in the GNAC.

Maya Hopwood ranks eighth in the GNAC in the 60-meter posting a time of 7.82 at the Spokane Invitational. Maliyah Thompson and Popchock are right behind with Thompson posting the ninth-best mark at 7.85 at the Husky Classic and Popchock with a time of 7.95 at the Spokane Invitational to come in 10th.

Hopwood is just outside of the top 10 in the 200-meter collecting a time of 26.43 to come in 11th. Jessy Hart is just a few places back in 13th with a time of 26.59. Taryn Wilson and Lavato will also compete in the event for the first time this indoor season.

Gabe Arce-Torres ranks 10th in the GNAC in the 400-meter with a time of 50.73 set at the Husky Classic. WOU also has three more in the event that rank in the top 25 including Aaron Hanible in 15th with a time of 51.35 at the WSU Open, Deshaun Stevens in 20th with a time of 51.59 at the WSU Open and Caleb Southworth in a tie for 24th with a time of 52.23 at the Spokane Invitational.

Hart ranks in the top 10 in the 400-meters with a time of 1:00.02 good for sixth in the GNAC set at the WSU Open.

Keeton Sanchez and Timothy Rambo rank in the top 10 in the GNAC in the 800-meters with Sanchez posting the sixth-best time of 1:53.88 at the UW Invite and Rambo with the ninth-best time of 1:55.56 set at the UW invite Easton Pomrankey is 12th in the GNAC.

Katie Chapman is 15th in the GNAC in the 800-meter with a time of 2:26.50 set at the Portland Indoor #4. Hurley ranks 19th in the conference in the event.

Sanchez is also 21st in the GNAC in the mile.

Bailey Smith ranks in the top 10 in the GNAC in the 3,000 posting the eighth-best time of 8:26.30 set at the Husky Classic. Keanu Daos is 15th in the conference in the same event with a time of 8:36.69 set at the UW Preview.

In addition to Heldt’s third-best time in the 3,000, Luz Garcia ranks sixth with a time of 10:26.79 set at the WSU Open and Kaylin Cantu is seventh with a time of 10:29.04 set at the Husky Classic.

In addition to Hurley competing in the pentathlon, Clemens will enter the event for the first time this season at GNAC’s.

In the men’s heptathlon, JJ Walker, Stevens, Burchfield and Brennen Sorah will compete for the Wolves. Walker competed in the heptathlon earlier this year at the WSU Invitational. Stevens, Burchfield and Sorah will all be entering the event for the first time this season.

In addition to Heldt competing in the 5,000, Garcia and Cantu will also run for the Wolves. This will be the first 5,000 of the indoor season for both Garcia and Cantu.

Smith and Daos rank eighth and ninth in the GNAC in the 5,000. Smith set his season-best time in the event of 15:03.61 at the UW Invite, while Daos also set his top season time at the UW Invite of 15:07.62.

Entering for the women’s distance medley will be Larson, Kaitlyn Kruse, Madeline Lambing, and Chapman will compete for the Wolves.

Entering for the men’s distance medley will be Hutton, Hanible, Pomrankey, and Rambo will compete for the Wolves.

In addition to Popchock in the 60 hurdles, Thompson has one of the top times as well checking in sixth in the GNAC with a time of 9.14 set at the WSU Open. Haley Blue also wants to compete for the Wolves and has the 14th-best time in the GNAC.

In the men’s 60 hurdles, Sorah and Conklin have the sixth and seventh best times in the GNAC. Sorah posted his time of 8.74 at the Portland Indoor #2 and Conklin hit his time of 8.75 at the Spokane Invitational. Hanible has the 10th-best time in the GNAC crossing at 8.89 at the Portland Indoor #2. James Duane will compete for the Wolves as he will enter the event for the first time this indoor season.

In addition to Hopwood, Thompson and Popchock competing in the 60-meter dash, Josie Lavato also wants to compete for the Wolves.

Amari Hendrix, James Mazzeo, Arce-Torres and Dominique Loggins all want to compete in the 60-meter dash. Hendrix holds the 16th-fastest time in the GNAC and Mazzeo has the 18th-fastest time. Arce-Torres and Loggins will compete in the event for the first time this indoor season.

Chapman and Larson will compete in the mile. Chapman holds the 12th-best time in the event in the GNAC, while Larson has the 13th-fastest time.

Hanible and Southworth will compete in the 400 meter. Hanible holds the 12th-fastest time in the GNAC and Southworth has the 18th-fastest time.

Chapman and Larson will compete in the mile with Chapman holding the 12th-best time and Larson right behind with the 13th-best time.

Hendrix, Arce-Torres and Mazzeo will compete in the 200-meter. Hendrix and Arce-Torres hold the 11th and 12th-best times in the GNAC, Mazzeo comes in 21st.

In the women’s 4×400 relay, Carstensen, Hart, Lambing, and Hurley will compete for the Wolves.

In the men’s 4×400 relay, Arce-Torres, Stevens, Southworth and Sanchez will compete for the Wolves.

Walker will compete in the pole vault for the first time this indoor season.

Stevens will also compete in the long jump posting the sixth-best mark in the GNAC at 21-10 set at the UW Preview. Harrison will also compete in the event for the Wolves holding the 13th-best distance in the GNAC at 20-8.

The GNAC Indoor Championships will begin on Monday at 9 am and then will start on Tuesday at 8:30 am Live video and results will be available throughout the championships. Live video can be found here and live stats can be found here.
