UPDATE # 2: – Driver identified March 8 fatal crash on Glenn L. Jackson Bridge

The driver of the Toyota was identified by the medical examiner as Cecilia R. Hao, 70, of Vancouver, Washington. Her family was informed of her death.

No further information is available. The crash is being investigated further.

At around 1:11 a.m. on March 8, 2021, Portland police officers responded to the report of a crash on I-205 heading north, about halfway across the span on Glenn Jackson Bridge. Officials arrived north of Government Island to find a completely engulfed Toyota RAV 4 and a Chrysler 300 against the eastern concrete barrier. There was a rubble field between the two vehicles. There was one occupant in each vehicle, and both died on the scene.

An investigation by the Portland Police Department’s Major Crash Team revealed that the Chrysler was traveling south on the north-facing lanes of I-205 and the Toyota was traveling north. The cars collided head-on.

The Chrysler occupant was identified as 21-year-old Morise Messiah Smith.
The crash is still being investigated. Additional information, including the identity of the driver of the Toyota, will be released on the instructions of the Major Crash Team.

At 1:10 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2021, officers from the North Precinct were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident report on I-205 heading north on the Glenn L. Jackson Bridge. When the officers arrived, they found a vehicle on fire. The drivers of both vehicles died on the scene.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team responds to an investigation. If anyone has any information about this incident, they are asked to call the police at 503-823-3333 and 21-62137.

During the investigation, I-205 will be closed to the north from Northeast Airport Way over Glenn L. Jackson Bridge to WA-14 in Washington. This is expected to take several hours.
