Two alumni named EvCC

Everett Community College has selected assistant principal Jennifer Reyes and former managing director of Camp Fire David surface as Distinguished Alumni of the college in 2021.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor given to alumni of Everett Community College and Everett Junior College. The award honors those who have demonstrated leadership skills in their chosen occupations and distinguished themselves through their service to their communities.

Reyes will serve as the assistant principal for the Hawthorne Elementary for the upcoming school year. She was previously the assistant principal at Jackson Elementary and taught at Whittier Elementary. She has also received the Snohomish County NAACP President’s Award and the EvCC Tanya Royer Community Service Award.

“Everett Community College was and still is my second home. I tell everyone to go to EvCC, including my elementary school, ”Reyes said.

Surface attended EvCC in the late 1960s and followed his passion for youth welfare. After a 24-year career with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish and King Counties, Surface was the Executive Director of Camp Fire Snohomish County for 27 years before retiring.

In an Alumni Spotlight article, Surface describes EvCC as “local and friendly … a place where I could pursue my other thoughts and dreams, where I could get into and go about something. I think the way through community college is the only way. ”

New leaders in the Arlington School District

Arlington Public Schools recently announced several administrative changes for the next school year.

Karl Olson, who served as the director of the Kent Prairie Elementary is the new director of the categorical programs. Colleen VanBelle, who was previously deputy headmaster in Kent Prairie will be the new headmaster at the school.

Bob Stoddard, an assistant principal at a Marysville middle school, becomes the new assistant principal at Kent Prairie Elementary.

Jamie Müller, who was previously the deputy principal at Presidents Elementary, will take over the management of the school. She will replace the current Headmaster, Derek Larsen, who will take up a position as Primary School Head in the Snohomish School District.

Lisa Foslien, an assistant principal in the Marysville School District, will be the new assistant principal at Presidents Elementary, pending approval by the school board on July 12th.

Everett Central Lions Member Receives Prestigious Award

Lee Woodard, past president of the Everett Central Lions Club, has received a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from Everett Central Lions.

The humanitarian community service award was created by the Lions Clubs International Foundation and awarded by local clubs.

Woodard has been recognized for his work on the ground at leading food campaigns, his work on blindness prevention projects, and his support in realizing the goals of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest charity.
