The video shows a Spokane County detective attempting a manhunt in the courthouse

SPOKANE, Washington – A newly released video shows a Spokane County Sheriff’s detective pursuing a man who allegedly tried to run away during a court hearing.

Investigators said it happened earlier this month.

The sheriff’s office said it started with Detective Brad Humphrey of the Spokane County’s Sexual Assault Unit sheriff going to a room in the Spokane County Supreme Court to contact someone. Humphrey was there to speak to the person about something that had nothing to do with what was happening in the courtroom.

While Jordan McElwain, 28, stood before the judge on a recall hearing on four pending arrest warrants. The sheriff’s office said McElwain was out of custody at the time, but was at the hearing because he failed to show up for a recent hearing. At the end of the performance, the judge ordered that McElwain be taken into custody and booked into the Spokane County Jail.

Upon hearing this, McElwain turned and ran out of the courtroom, reporting to the sheriff’s office.

Detective Humphrey immediately started chasing him. Humprey let McElwain know that he was law enforcement and had been arrested.

That didn’t stop McElwain.

The sheriff’s office said McElwain kept running until he went down a hallway with a cul-de-sac. Detective Humphrey was right there with him, once again letting him know that he was law enforcement.
