After a two-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions, the Cascade Bicycle Club has announced a full calendar of events and rides for 2022, including a return from Seattle to Portland.

The 206-mile Seattle to Portland route presented by Alaska Airlines (STP) – the Pacific Northwest’s largest and most famous group cycling event – will return on July 17th and 18th, according to the Cascade Bicycle Club.

STP was founded in 1979 and attracts up to 10,000 participants annually. STP is “a celebration on two wheels that attracts attendees from across the region and across the country” where riders test their fitness while raising funds for Cascades youth cycling initiatives, bike advocacy and programs serving its 9,000 members and cyclists of Cascade will serve throughout Washington state, the Cascade Bicycle Club said in a press release.

Participants also support other nonprofit nonprofit organizations that Cascade has contracted with to provide food and services along the STP route.

The return of STP and the resumption of Cascade’s other major cycling events are “great news and a great moral boost” for Washington’s cycling community and the state’s tourism and outdoor recreation industries, said Lee Lambert, executive director of Cascade Bicycle Club .

“We’re inviting cyclists from across Washington, the Northwest and across the country to join us in July for the most special and highly anticipated STP ever,” said Lambert.

“Come and join in, make new friends and help us make STP – and our entire event season – the most exciting and festive in the 52-year history of the Cascade Bicycle Club.”

Cascade’s big ride season kicks off in February with Chilly Hilly’s return to scenic Bainbridge Island and continues through the spring, summer and fall with one-day events like the Ride for Major Taylor, the Flying Wheels Summer Century and the Kitsap Color Classic.

Multi-day rides and tours include the Ride Around Washington (RAW), Ride From Seattle to Vancouver and Party (RSVP), Lake Chelan Tour Lite, as well as two Seattle Bike-n-Brews events and the Woodinville Wine Ride.

“We have rides for everyone from fitness fans who want to pedal 100 miles a day to families looking for a fun ride around Seattle,” said Lambert.
