SPOKANE, Washington – If you look outside this afternoon, you can see that the air quality today isn’t as clear, or even comfortable, and was unhealthy, but it has now improved.

Saturday kicks off with smoky skies, and the National Weather Service Spokane said several forest fires are adding smoke to the area. They said on their Twitter that unhealthy air has been reported in Pullman, Pomeroy, Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and Camas Prairie and that major fires in Asotin and Snake Rivers are expected to produce more smoke today.

On their air quality index, the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency showed that Spokane has improved from “unhealthy” to “moderate” and is currently at 87. Spokane Clean Air said on their Twitter that forest fire smoke continues to deteriorate Spokane’s air quality.

The National Weather Service said on its website that shallow smoke from fires in southeast Washington and the Idaho Panhandle will continue to affect air quality. They added that people should keep their windows and doors closed to keep the air in their homes as clean as possible; reduce the time you spend in smoke-filled areas; avoid vigorous outdoor activities; and stay hydrated.

Not only does Spokane have poor air quality, Coeur d’Alene experiences it too.

This is a developing story.
