Teen arrested in the fatal shooting of a man in the supermarket | State and region

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A teenage boy has been arrested and charged with the murder of a man who was killed in a North Portland supermarket, police said.

The Portland Police Bureau said the 16-year-old boy was detained in southeast Portland on Wednesday, The Oregonian / OregonLive reported.

He is being held for first degree murder, robbery and illicit use of a weapon. His name was not published.

At around 4:30 a.m. on March 31, police responded to reports of gunfire and found a man who was shot while shopping in a 7-Eleven store. Paramedics tried to help the man, but he died in a nearby hospital.

The victim was later identified as Michael Arrington, 53, of Vancouver, Washington.

“While we can never bring Mr. Arrington back, I hope this arrest can bring some degree of closure to his family,” Acting Police Chief Chris Davis said in a statement. “I am particularly concerned about the young age of the suspect. This is a reminder for us of the important work we have ahead of us in addressing the violence and general health of our community. “
