Super Bowl Berths At Stake – Vanderbilt University Athletics – Official Athletics Website

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt is looking to have Super Bowl representation for the fifth time in six seasons as the NFL Playoffs enter conference championship Sunday.

Allan George and the Cincinnati Bengals visit Kansas City in the AFC Championship. Oren Burks and Jordan Matthews join San Francisco against the Eagles in the NFC title game.

Winners will advance to Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12.

George and the Bengals went to Buffalo and overcame a snow storm and the Bills, 27-10, in the divisional round. George played on special teams and graded out as Cincinnati’s fourth-best special teams player in the game per Pro Football Focus.

Cincinnati will look to win in Kansas City and capture the AFC title for the second consecutive year at 5:30 pm Sunday on CBS.

Burks, Matthews (injured reserve) and the 49ers took down the Cowboys 19-12 to make the NFC Championship game. Burks made one special teams tackle and played 19 snaps in the win over Dallas. San Francisco visits Philadelphia at 2 pm CT Sunday (FOX) for the NFC crown.

Tre Herndon was the other remaining Vanderbilt player to reach the divisional round. He made five tackles as the Jaguars fell to the Chiefs 27-20. Herndon finished his fifth NFL season with 35 tackles in 13 games.

Vanderbilt has had 19 former players appear in the Super Bowl. Most recently, Ke’Shawn Vaughn (Tampa Bay) and Emmanuel Smith (Kanas City) squared off in Super Bowl LV two seasons ago, with Vaughn and the Buccaneers lifting the Lombardi Trophy during the running back’s rookie season.
