Spokane Valley opens cold stores during the heat wave

SPOKANE VALLEY, Washington – With the record breaking heat wave in the Pacific Northwest and extremely hot temperatures forecast for this weekend and so on, the city of Spokane Valley has designated a handful of cold spots.

People can escape the heat and are given water and snacks in most cases.

The current list of Spokane Valley locations includes:

  • Broadway Elementary School (across the street from Spokane Valley Partners) at 11016 E. Broadway Avenue. From Monday they are open from 10 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. and offer space for up to 30 people. Water and snacks will be available as long as supplies last.
  • Spokane Valley partner located at 10814 E. Broadway Avenue. From Monday they are open until 7 p.m. and offer space for up to 35 people. Water and snacks are available as long as supplies last.
  • Opportunity Presbyterian Church located at 202 N. Pines Road. From Sunday this facility is open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and can accommodate up to 15 people. Water and snacks are available as long as supplies last.
  • Locations of the valley library have lifted their 60 minute occupancy limit as people are welcome to come and stay during regular hours. The library is 50 percent full.
