Seattle Surge repeat history against FaZe in Arlington

The last two years of professional Call of Duty have not been good for the Seattle Surge. Despite adding high-profile talent to their rosters, they haven’t been able to find any form of success. Seattle Surge’s only bright moment came during the Cold War when Atlanta FaZe showed a moment of weakness during the Stage 5 Major.

Seattle had a lights-out performance against the once-mighty Atlanta FaZe to eliminate them from the Major in an intense five-map streak. For Atlanta, losing to the league’s worst team was a wake-up call, and for Seattle, it was a great moment for a doomed roster. Six months later, a newly formed Seattle Surge took over the same FaZe roster at the same stadium they were knocked out at the Stage 5 Major. With the stakes rising, the new and improved Seattle Surge roster has their sights set on the Cold War kings.

The stage is set

Despite it being the first series of the day, Arlington’s Esports Stadium was packed with fans eagerly awaiting the rematch of a lifetime. After many months, a new roster and a championship between them, there was no telling how Seattle would end up against FaZe.

From the very first hardpoint, the fans were already on their feet screaming and screaming in praise of the FaZe players who were putting up countless streaks. While Seattle themselves received some cheers as they took the stage, those fans fell silent as they watched their team be dominated by the former champions.

While the hardpoint might have silenced Seattle Surge fans, the following Search and Destroy and Control got them back on their feet. A round eleven search had fans yelling at FaZe fans and jumping around the arena as “Pred” latched on to the ninja defuse. That eleventh-round momentum carried over into control on Gavutu, where Seattle swept the floor with FaZe in a clean 3-0.

Seattle “drowns out” Atlanta FaZe

80 points down in the Tuscan hardpoint, Seattle Surge had their backs to the wall and an opportunity to defeat the Atlanta FaZe at Esports Stadium. It might have been the stadium and the history it carries, or the fans and their cheering, but Seattle could pull it back. The team may be new, but history repeats itself. Seattle took the win 250-196 for the reverse sweep and lined up FaZe’s coffin shortly after they got their championship rings on the main stage.

“FLOOD WARMING IN ATLANTA,” tweeted the Call of Duty League. “The Seattle Surge win the series 3-1 and defeat the defending champions.”

As the last second ended in favor of The Surge, the entire building erupted in cheers for the Seattle side. FaZe may have won the championship last season, but it wasn’t the crowd favorite at Arlington. Everyone in the stands sided with the Surge. For the second time at Esports Stadium, the Seattle Surge showed Atlanta FaZe what Drown Them Out really means.
