The Vancouver Police Department is offering a $10,000 incentive Boarding Officers as follows:

The newly hired enlistment officer will receive: $2,000 on their first paycheck and $8,000 upon successful completion of the CJTC Academy, FTO process and probationary period.

The Vancouver Police Department is offering a $25,000 incentive side cops as follows:

The newly hired Lateral Police Officer will receive: $8,000 on his first paycheck; $8500 on her paycheck immediately after successfully completing her probationary period and $8500 on her paycheck immediately after her three year service anniversary.

To qualify as a Lateral Police Officer for this incentive, the Lateral Police candidate must be currently employed as a police officer who has successfully completed their field training and probationary status with their current department. The Lateral Police Applicant must also meet all other standards established by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center to be qualified as a Washington State Lateral Police Applicant.

*Educational incentive of 2.5% for 2-year study, 5% for 4-year study. Switching differential for Swing and Graveyard circuits. Holiday premium of 2.4% paid monthly.

Health care benefits for families and partners include medical, eye care and dental care. Medical coverage provided by Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield. Dental services are provided by Washington Dental or Kaiser Permanente.

Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters Retirement System (LEOFF II).

In addition, Washington State provides 12 weeks of paid maternity leave to each parent upon the birth of a child and an additional 4-6 weeks of paid sick leave to all mothers who give birth. This paid vacation is independent of sick leave or vacation time accumulated by the official in the department.

The position

Vancouver, Washington’s fourth-largest city, combines the excitement of a large metropolitan area with the appeal of a mid-size community and numerous recreational opportunities. Downtown Portland, Oregon is a 15-minute drive. The Pacific Coast is less than 90 miles to the west; the Columbia River Gorge scenic area and the Cascade Mountain Range are just to the east; Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument and Mount Hood (climbing and skiing) are both less than two hours away.

Its officers are tasked with protecting life and property through the enforcement of laws and regulations, including the prevention, detection and investigation of crimes and civil violations, and the exercise of the powers of arrest.

The Vancouver Police Department dispatches from our headquarters/administrative building and two precincts. Our current authorized staff as of 2020 is 234 sworn officers and 63 civilian auxiliaries. The patrol schedule allows for generous days off. Patrol officers work 10 1/2 hour shifts on a 5/4, 5/4, 5/5 (on/off) schedule. In addition to patrol, officers have the opportunity for specialty assignments in areas such as SWAT, Traffic, Personal and Property Detectives, Street Crime, Neighborhood Cops, Canine, Narcotics, Gangs, Bike Patrol, Honor Guard Investigations and Child Abuse, Digital Evidence Cybercrimes Unit, Domestic Detectives violence and others.

The Police Officer is a regular full-time, non-vacant position in the union. This position is covered by the terms of an agreement between the city and the Vancouver Police Officers Guild.
