Seattle puts head coach Jim Hayford on administrative leave | National news from the Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – Seattle University has put basketball coach Jim Hayford on administrative leave. Hayford was on leave on Friday, Seattle sporting director Shaney Fink said in a statement on Saturday. Citing unidentified sources, Stadium reported that a Seattle player alleged that Hayford used racial slur twice during a scrimmage Thursday. The report said Hayford apologized on Friday but the majority of players refused to play for him. Hayford has been in Seattle for the past four seasons. Before that, he was the head coach at Eastern Washington. Deputy head coach Chris Victor will lead the team. Victor is in his fifth year with the program.
