Matthew Lewis “frustrated” by Harry Potter references

Matthew Lewis becomes “frustrated” with constant references to his role in “Harry Potter”.

The 31-year-old actor played Hogwarts student Neville Longbottom in all eight films in the wizarding franchise, which is based on JK Rowling’s books, but feels “frustrated” always being connected to the character.

On Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast, Matthew said, “I still get a little frustrated to some extent when people say, ‘Oh, he is …’.

“For example, I’m doing this show right now on PBS and how many headlines are, ‘He’s no longer Neville Longbottom’ and it’s like, ‘I haven’t been in 10 years.'”

Matthew is irritated by the perception that he has “done things that have been so wildly different” since he last played Neville in 2011.

He said, “I’ve been to plays that won BAFTAs and did all of these things.

“And I’m not bragging about it, it’s just like I did all of these things and 10 years later people are claiming I jumped into this from ‘Harry Potter’ and completely ignored the journey I was making There.”

Matthew continued, “It’s like you have that voice in your head that says, ‘Hey, you know all the work you’ve done over the past 10 years? Nobody saw it. Nobody cares. You still think this is the first job you’ve done since ‘Harry Potter’. “

He’s not the only former “Harry Potter” star who has been desperately trying to get off the show, as Rupert Grint says he’ll never see himself in the movie.

The 32-year-old star, who played Ron Weasley in the franchise, confessed that he hadn’t seen himself in the films until “The Philosopher’s Stone” aired on TV one Christmas.

Recalling his unscheduled visit, Rupert said, “It was actually … okay. I don’t know why I didn’t, but I think because it was the first time I had enough time to let go of it and actually enjoy it. But I don’t think I’ll be doing a (viewing) marathon anytime soon. “
