Irvin Wayne McLain, 77, was born in Long Beach, California on April 9, 1944, to Virginia and Carl McLain. He had three younger sisters, Annette, Marcy and Kathy.

As a young man he joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany as a tank mechanic for three years. He married Linda Pier of Newport, Oregon when he was 24 years old. They lived in Chehalis, Washington for several years before moving to Newport, Oregon. He worked in various jobs, including as a choker in the forest, was the chief greenkeeper of the Agate Beach Golf Course and also worked with his father-in-law Elton Pier at Yaquina Head Rock Quarry.

He was a very devoted father and father to two children, Sheila McLain of Clatskanie, Oregon and Steve McLain of Newport, Oregon, who spent most of his free time with them. He was a volunteer firefighter / EMT and worked for many years as a fire marshall for the Newport Fire Department. He then became the Fire Chief of the Depoe Bay, Oregon Fire Department, and then the Fire Chief of the Amity, Oregon Fire Department.

He was the best grandpa of his six grandchildren, Toni, David, Kaden, Alissa, Cody and Savannah. He was also a great-uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

After retiring, he and Linda moved to Clatskanie, Oregon until Linda passed away in 2018. Irv and Misty moved to Waldport, Oregon after they got married, where they enjoyed the beach life and learned how to use their laser engraver together.

Irv enjoyed laughing, hanging out with family and friends, telling jokes and stories, fishing, hunting, collecting crabs, camping, photography, and cooking.

He died at his family’s home on September 21, 2021. He was very popular with everyone who met him and loved by so many. He is deeply missed by an endless crowd of family and friends, but his sense of humor and all of our memories of him will live on forever.
