FTA Announces Grant Funding for Bus-S-Bahn Projects in Three States

The Federal Transport Administration (FTA) recently announced the award of construction grants for three bus-suburban train projects.

Awards include $ 24.9 million for Clark County’s Public Transportation Area (C-TRAN) for the Mill Plain Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Vancouver, Washington; $ 78.3 million to the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) for the Ogden-Weber State University Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a 5.3-mile BRT project in Ogden, Utah; and $ 60.9 million to the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) for the Albany Washington Western Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in New York.

The 9.9 mile BRT Mill Plain project includes the construction of 21 new train stations, including a new transit center with nine bays, and the purchase of eight new BRT vehicles. The project will provide frequent and consistent transit services to reduce travel times and improve reliability and mobility for residents who do not have access to a car.

The total cost of the project is $ 49.9 million, with $ 24.9 million from the FTA’s Capital Investment Grants (CIG) program.

Ogden-Weber State University’s BRT project includes the construction of 3.5 miles of exclusive bus lanes on the WSU campus, a total of 13 stations with a unique brand, priority for transit signals and the purchase of 11 electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. The project also includes a new transit center on the WSU campus and the expansion of the existing UTA Mount Ogden maintenance facility. The project offers drivers clean aviation in an electric bus from the FrontRunner Station in Ogden through the city center, along special bus lanes through the Weber State University campus and to McKay Dee Hospital.

The total cost of the project is $ 120.5 million, with $ 78.3 million from the FTA’s CIG program.

The 8.5-mile Washington Western Corridor project includes a 1-mile, semi-exclusive bus route through the State University of New York to the Albany (UAlbany) campus. The project will run from the bus station in downtown Albany through the Harriman State Office Campus and UAlbany to Crossgates Mall. The project will provide a critical transit service to key residential areas and provide a regular, consistent service to reduce travel time and improve reliability.

The total cost of the project is $ 77.7 million, with $ 60.9 million from the FTA’s CIG program.
