28 students graduated from the Everett Junior Police Academy on Friday.
This week’s session was the 18th time School Resource Officers from Everett Police and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office have presented the program.
Middle and High School students from throughout the Everett School District are selected to spend a week interacting with police officers, getting in person experience in the various units within the Everett Police Department.
Just like the regular police academy there are physical fitness programs, field programs and classroom work. There’s even a final essay.
Throughout the week officers from Everett Police, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol’s various specialty units came by to demonstrate how they accomplish their particular task and gave attendees hands-on instruction.
It is also a chance for the students to interact with police officers in a more personal way and then gives an up close look at who the officers are and how they approach their job.
