Carter Bins homers, drives in three to lead Everett AquaSox over Spokane Indians

It’s been a difficult start to the season for Spokane Indians left-handed Helcris Olivarez, who ranks 7th in the Colorado Rockies. The 20-year-old suffered losses on each of his first three starts, allowing for nine deserved runs and a total of 24 hits and walks in 13 innings.

On Friday against Everett, Olivarez showed off the arm the Rockies like but also the work he still has to do.

Olivarez only allowed two inexperienced runs and three hits over four innings but went five – to go with six spikes. The bats couldn’t save him and Olivarez recorded his fourth loss to start the season.

Carter Bins scored a double with two runs in a fifth inning with four runs against two reliefs, then hit a solo homer in the ninth, and the AquaSox defeated the Indians in the fourth of a High-A West series with six games 8-6 Avista- Stadion.

The defeat ended the Indians’ winning streak in three games.

Olivarez immediately got into hot water. Zach DeLoach singled and Julio Rodriguez walked on four fields. After two rashes, Olivarez Kaden Polcovich lost with an external fastball to load the bases.

The Indian starter fought back to get Bins to have them loaded.

Olivarez went down two straight batters in the second inning. One mistake loaded the bases, then a run scored on a slowly hit groundout. Austin Shenton celebrated another run home with a hard hit but the runner was kicked out and tried to stretch it into a double.

By two innings, Olivarez had thrown 54 pitches, 28 for strikes.

After an easy third, Olivarez walked the tightrope again in the fourth. He gave up a single, went and hit a hitter, but he knocked out Rodriguez to end the threat.

The AquaSox collected four runs against the pen in the fifth run, with Bins scoring the big hit on a double with two runs.

Spokane cut into the deficit on the sixth. With two defeats to Brenton Doyle, Michael Toglia beat his league-leading sixth homer of the season over the galley in the right field. It could have been more, but Hunter Stovall was caught looking with runners in second and third to finish the inning.

The Indians made it a two-run game in game eight when AJ Lewis came home after a groundout from Niko Decolati. Three consecutive one-off singles loaded the bases for the Indians on the eighth and Lewis’ sacrificial fly made it 6-5.

But Bins and Jack Larsen went in ninth race in a row to give Everett a triple pillow again.

A walk, a wild field of play, and a mistake allowed Spokane to take a run in the bottom half.

Scratched: The Seattle Mariners prospectus tour should continue on Friday. Right-handed George Kirby was supposed to start for the Everett AquaSox.

Kirby was a scratch because of the “team decision” but his replacement made a good impression.

Right-handed Stephen Kolek drew the assignment, throwing three scoreless innings with five strokes, allowing one hit and no walks. Kolek has yet to admit a deserved run in four appearances for Everett.
