Boys basketball: Astoria win one, lose one | Local

The Astoria boys’ basketball team was understaffed with some athletes still on the track and opened the season with two games over the weekend.

The Fishermen scored a 43:41 win over Warrenton at Brick House on Friday when Xander Marincovich scored 18 points, Judd Field 11 and Niko Boudreau eight for Astoria, which had just six players in uniform.

Dawson Little led Warrenton with 12 points, followed by Hunter Xochipiltecatl with 10 points.

“It wasn’t bad for our first game,” said Astorias coach Kevin Goin. “It feels more like a summer league game and we’ve had some sales and misses, but it was good to be out there again. I am really happy that we are playing. “

The fishermen turned around and played a home game against Hockinson early Saturday afternoon, which Astoria defeated 45:40.

Field scored 15 and Marincovich added eight for the fishermen who were in bad trouble but finished strong after a 12 point deficit.

Astoria was missing Colton McMaster and TJ Colvin.

In the basketball action of other boys on Saturday, Columbia River of Vancouver, Washington, defeated Seaside 44:40. The seagulls hold the Catholic Tuesday in the valley.

Seaside 62, button 25

The basketball teams of the Junge Knappa and Seaside will always be state powers at their respective levels.

That won’t change this spring as both the Loggers and the Seagulls will battle for state titles in June wherever and whenever those championships take place.

While both teams were almost at full strength at the start on Friday evening in Seaside, both teams have room for improvement.

The Seagulls were the official winners of the first high school basketball game at the new Seaside gym with a score of 62-25.

The game was just after a quarter, but Seaside was leading 26-10 at halftime.

Despite a baseball double on Saturday, the Loggers had their baseball players in the line-up, Logan Morrill leading by six points.

The seagulls showed brilliant lightning and earned 10 3-point points in the game.

Freshman Ruger Thompson led Seaside with 14 points, followed by 6-foot-7 Junior Cash Corder with 12 and Junior Ever Sibony with 11.
