SPOKANE VALLEY, Washington – Two dogs were killed in a house fire in Spokane Valley late Wednesday night.

The fire brigade found that the fire was in the basement and was vented through the entrance door on one half of the double storey. Hot temperatures and heavy fire challenged the crew, but they were able to knock it down in 20 minutes.

The crews searched the semi-detached house and found no people in it, but they found two dogs. They tried to resuscitate the animals, but the animals did not survive.

Firefighters said there were working smoke alarms in the house that helped alert families to come out.

A person living in the semi-detached house was examined and released at the scene. A firefighter was taken to the hospital for examination but is said to be in “stable condition”.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the Red Cross has been notified to help find accommodation for both families.
