🌱 National Guard At Sacred Heart + No Spokane Eviction Spike

Happy Monday neighbors! Here’s everything you need to know going on in Spokane today.

First, today’s weather:

cloudy High: 36 Low: 22.

Here are the top three stories today in Spokane:

  1. Amid ongoing staff shortages at local hospitals, 10 members of the Washington National Guard have started serving at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. The team will be working in “non-clinical roles” in the Emergency Center for at least 30 days, but are available to help “as long as needed,” according to a news release. (KHQ Right Now)
  2. Thanks to the upwards of $50 million of rental assistance provided by federal COVID-19 relief, Spokane County has not seen a surge in eviction filings since last year’s moratorium expired. Additionally, Washington state legislature enacted a series of tenant protections last year, including landlord requirements to attempt other measures prior to eviction. Worry persists, however — especially because while these protections are permanent, the COVID relief funds are not. (The Spokesman Review)
  3. The Spokane Regional Safe Streets Task Force and Spokane PD’s SWAT Team have arrested two juvenile gang members involved in a robbery. Task force members developed probable cause to arrest both of the suspects, later recovering most of the items stolen — including a French bulldog puppy. (Press Release Desk)
