MONMOUTH, Ore. — The Western Oregon men’s soccer team closes out its inaugural season 1:30 pm Thursday as the Wolves host Seattle Pacific.

Earlier this season, the Wolves lost to the Falcons, 2-0, in Seattle

WOLVES HEADING INTO THE WEEK | 2022 STATS

Western Oregon dropped a pair of GNAC contests last week, falling at home to Simon Fraser 2-0 on Thursday and dropping a 5-1 contest at Montana State Billings on Saturday.

Grignon leads the team in scoring with four goals and one assist while Villalobos is second on the team in scoring with three goals and an assist. Juan Suarez at keeper has played all but 69 minutes this season and has a 2.17 GAA with a 0.748 save percentage with 98 saves and three shutouts. He also leads the team in minutes (1,371) followed by Enrique Gomez (1,326), Chester March (1,280), Villalobos (1,268), Jimmy Perkins (1,171) and Ben Mitcheson (1,030).

SEATTLE PACIFIC HEADING INTO THE WEEK | 2022 STATISTICS

The Falcons are coming off a pair of home wins in the last week, defeating Western Washington 2-1 Saturday before beating Saint Martin’s 9-0 on Monday with seven different players scoring.

Andrew Tran, who has played in only 13 games, hasn’t started a game and played just 432 minutes, leads the team in scoring with 13 points (five goals, three assists) while Owen Gortner, Demain Alvarez and Ed Weise have three goals apiece and Connor Tollan leads the team with four assists. Alden Massey leads the team in shots with 37. At keeper, Lars Helleren has played all but 53 minutes for the Falcons and has a 1.10 GAA, 0.695 save percentage and 41 saves to go along with six shutouts.

WESTERN OREGON MEN’S SOCCER NOTES

FIRST GNAC VICTORY…

The Wolves picked up their first GNAC victory in program history on Oct. 23, defeating Saint Martin’s 2-0 at the WOU Turf Field. All the point getters were freshmen with Abraham Villalobos picking up a goal and an assist, Alex Grignon with a goal and Jesua Pena-Herrera with an assist. Juan Suarez picked up the shutout at keeper.

GAME 1, WIN 1 …

The Wolves opened their program history in impressive fashion – defeating a solid Hawaii Pacific team 1-0 on Aug. 26. The first goal in program history came from freshman Alex Grignon in the 74th minute to give WOU the lead for good.

GNAC TEAM OF THE WEEK – RELEASE

The Western Oregon men’s soccer team was named the GNAC Team of the Week on Aug. 29 after the Wolves won their first match in program history. The Wolves defeated Hawaii Pacific, 1-0, at WOU Soccer Field on Friday – a Sharks squad that had eight wins under its belt a season ago and return much of its starting lineup.
