SALEM HILLS, Oregon — Friday, October 7: Willamette Valley Vineyards, a leading Oregon producer of Pinot Noir, was named a top winery on a national list of the 13 best wineries in the United States for 2022.

The article in The Daily Meal praised Oregon’s Willamette Valley as one of the world’s best locations to produce Pinot Noir and listed Willamette Valley Vineyards as a prominent winery in the area that produces “fantastic pinot noir.” The region’s high-quality wine is due in part to a climate that allows grapes to develop on the vine and the Willamette Valley’s superior wine-growing terroir and soil, which consists of volcanic soil overlayed with deposits of the historic Missoula Floods.

The winery’s award-winning Bernau Block and Whole Cluster Pinot Noir wines contributed to Willamette Valley Vineyards’ selection alongside some of the most prominent wineries in the nation. Bernau Block Pinot Noir has received 90-plus wine scores from Wine Enthusiast, Savor Northwest and noted wine critic James Suckling. Meanwhile, according to The Daily Meal, the winery’s Whole Cluster Pinot Noir is a standout example of the whole cluster style of wine, where grapes are first fermented on their stems to improve the wine’s “taste, structure and aging qualities.”

“Growing sustainable wines while stewarding the land is another important part of our process, and a value since the winery started in 1983,” said Founder and CEO Jim Bernau.

Oregon wineries Hiyu Wine Farms in Hood River, Oregon, and Remy Wines in Dayton, Oregon, were also listed among the top 13, giving additional kudos to what The Daily Meal called the state’s “rich and bountiful natural environment.”

Willamette Valley Vineyards is the culmination of years of hard work by Bernau as well as the support of wine enthusiasts who have invested in the project by purchasing shares of preferred Willamette Valley Vineyards stock (NASDAQ: WVVIP). Bernau conducted the first “crowdfunding” in the nation to build his winery by obtaining permission from the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1988, resulting in a growing fabric of laws allowing community-based funding for small businesses.

Funds raised through stock offerings have allowed Willamette Valley Vineyards to develop sparkling winery Domaine Willamette which opened in September in Oregon’s Dundee Hills, as well as Tasting Room & Restaurant locations in Lake Oswego, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. More locations are opening in Happy Valley, Oregon, in the fall of 2022 and in Bend, Oregon, in 2023.

Willamette Valley Vineyards

Founded in 1983 by Oregon winegrower Jim Bernau with the dream of creating world-class Pinot Noir while serving as stewards of the land, Willamette Valley Vineyards has grown from a bold idea into one of the region’s leading wineries, earning the title “One of America’s Great Pinot Noir Producers” from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. All the vineyards have been certified sustainable through LIVE (Low Impact Viticulture and Enology) and Salmon-Safe programs.
