Wildcats Wrap Up Split Weekend in Lubbock and Seattle

LUBBOCK, TX— The Wildcats ended their split weekend in Lubbock and Seattle on Saturday with multiple athletes raking in PRs and two event wins.

Texas Tech Open
Jordan Geist and Samantha Noennig won the men’s and women’s shot put for the second time this season. The pair dominated and won by a combined margin of 4.24m. Geist threw 20.87m (68-5.75) while Noennig launched 17.14m (56-2.75). Youssef Koudssi hit a large PR of 17.36m (56-11.5) and Mackenna Orie threw 15.52m (50-11) in the event.

Neysia Howard finished in the top 10 in a stacked 200m race, crossing the finish line in 24.26. She was followed by Dior Asemota with a time of 25:04 and Ajaysha Lewis with a time of 25:87.

The women’s 4×400 relay team, consisting of Neysia Howard, Anna Foreman, Xahria Santiago and Shannon Meisberger, clocked a time of 3:40.52 to place fifth overall.

Alexa Porpaczy, Diana Ramos and Talie Bonds all cleared the bar by 1.72m (5-7.75) to finish in the top 10 in the women’s high jump.

400m hurdler Shannon Meisberger competed in her first collegiate 800m and finished sixth in 2:13.88.

A handful of distance runners traveled to Seattle to compete in the UW Invitational. Brothers Ian Sanchez Lopez and Iker Sanchez Lopez made their 3000m debuts in 7:59.63 and 8:02.52 respectively. Shem Kemboi posted a PR of 8:34.98 in the race. In the women’s race, Grace Driskill ran a time of 9:50.23 and Meggie Karp 10:19.30.

In the 800m, Timothy Kibet led the Cats with a time of 1:53.92, followed by Cade Russo with a time of 1:55.92.

Highlights of the first day
Shannon Meisberger ran a 400m time of 53.79, just under her PR, and finished second. She was followed by Xahria Santiago, who ran a season best of 55.89. In the men’s race, Calvin Wilson clocked a time of 47.66.

Talie Bonds qualified for the 60mH final with a first lap time of 8.38 and a semifinal time of 8.37. She finished sixth in the final with a time of 8:44.

Katie Daily posted an indoor PR of 3.97m (13-0.25) in the pole vault and finished fourth. In the men’s event, Tanner Kippes cleared a height of 4.85m (15-11) and finished seventh.

Anna Foreman was fifth in the 600m with a time of 1:34.40. Damien Jackson ran the men’s 1:23.79.

Hollan Powers finished her collegiate pentathlon debut with a score of 3,479. Her best time of the day was the 60 mH, where she clocked 9:12 and scored 885 points.
