Why the Seattle Seahawks waived Phil Haynes

On Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks took the necessary steps to reduce the roster from 81 players to 53. The steps included the release of three non-waiver veterans and the waiver of 26 players who were waived.

The other 31 teams in the NFL all took similar steps, with hundreds of players making waivers, two of which ended up in Seattle. Both Dakoda Shepley, claimed by the San Francisco 49ers, and Nigel Warrior, claimed by the Baltimore Ravens, joined the Seahawks roster on Wednesday afternoon. Of course, these two additions required the team to make two appropriate moves to meet the maximum number of 53 players in the roster.

At least one of the steps the team took to create the pairs of points required for Shepley and Warrior is now known.

With today’s waiver, comes a new round of cuts. Among them, the #Seahawks are Phil Haynes’ guard, according to the source. The election of the fourth round in the 2019 draft leads to waivers.

Phil Haynes, who was drafted from Wake Forest in 2019 but suffered early career injuries, was sidelined for first place.
