After a gruelling loss against the Raiders on Sunday, the Broncos (2-2) look to get back on track in the coming weeks as Indianapolis (1-2-1) comes to the city to play “Thursday Night Football.” On a short week, each team will try to move past their mistakes from Week 4 and prepare for a prime-time matchup. The Broncos are 2-0 after winning the first two games they played in the stadium of Empower Field at Mile High, and they hope to repeat their run on the home field when they take on the Colts for the first time since the 2016 season.
The Colts traded for the quarterback Matt Ryan, a four-time Pro Bowler and the league’s MVP of 2016 in the offseason to bolster their offense. Ryan played his first 14 NFL seasons playing for the Falcons which led Atlanta to a Super Bowl appearance in 2016. From the start of the campaign, Ryan has built a solid chemistry and has a great relationship with receiver Michael Pittman Jr. The latter is the leader of the Colts in receptions and receiving yards. The running back Jonathan Taylor, who was the reigning runner-up in 2021, ranks seventh in the NFL with a rushing yard in 2022 — but the Colts ruled him out on Wednesday because of an ankle injury. In his stead quarterback Nyheim Hinescould receive a bigger amount of work. The cornerback Pat Surtain II is another player who will showcase his skills in a matchup against Pittman while linebacker outside Bradley Chubband defensive end Dre’Mont Jones will look to put the pressure on Ryan.
In the opposite side of the coin, the Broncos’ offense will aim for more consistency following an impressive first quarter in the game against the Raiders. Quarterback Russell Wilson has displayed glimpses of his classic ability to move in the past two games. He also scored his first rushing touchdown of the season in Week 4. Wide receivers Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler all racked up more than 50 receiving yards against the Raiders as well. Wilson will be looking to continue moving the ball about against the Colts defense that allows the 10th fewest receiving yards allowed for the league in a game-by-game basis. Pro Bowl cornerback Kenny Moore is ranked number. 82 on the NFL Top 100 player rankings coming into the season, will pose a challenge for the Broncos wide receivers. Denver’s offensive line will do its best to contain the 2020 All-Pro first-team defensive tackle DeForest Buckner veteran who has proven to be a major force in the fight against both the pass and running since the 2016.
