West Seattle Blog… | YOU CAN HELP: 3 chances to volunteer in West Seattle this weekend

Here are three ways you and your neighbors can make West Seattle more beautiful this weekend:

ALKI CLEANUP, SATURDAY: Jessica does this on the first Saturdays:

Alki Beach, Parks and Walkways Cleanup September 4th

Where: Meet outside at 2452 Alki Ave SW
Time: From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bring your own pick sticks, gardening gloves, and a bucket (works better than bags, especially when it’s windy). I have a limited number of pick sticks and buckets. It is advisable to pack up when it is cold and when it is warm it is best to wear closed-toe shoes.

Children are welcome if they are supervised by adults. Send Jessica to RSVP, 206-769-6330.

FRIENDS OF LINCOLN PARK, SATURDAY: This long-standing group has a few places for more help

September 4, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Ivy, blackberry and holly, oh my! Join FLiP (Friends of Lincoln Park) as we work to restore our beautiful natural spaces. The park comprises 80 hectares of forest with a wide variety of native trees and plants. But our urban forests are threatened by alien, invasive plant species and need our help to thrive and stay healthy. This is where YOU come into play! We promise you good training and lots of eco-karma. Good for the environment and good for your health!

SCHMITZ-PARK, SUNDAY: There is still some room for help at this event.

September 5, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

There is something for everybody! We will grow ivy in a shady valley, water native plants to help them survive this hot, dry summer, and haul wood shavings to prepare for the plants arriving this fall.
