Walla Walla Community College women’s basketball team outperforms Spokane, 72-60 | University sports

SPOKANE – Walla Walla Community College women’s basketball team took advantage of a weekend disrupted by travel conditions.

The Warriors had canceled their two scheduled games when Edmonds and South Puget Sound withdrew from the Big Foot Classic due to travel conditions from the west, leaving Spokane the only remaining opponent.

On Friday, December 10th, the Warriors took their fourth straight win with a 72-60 win over Spokane.

Kortney Trappett was the best scorer for the Warriors with 22 points (4-2 record), while teammate Brie Holececk had 21 points, Miaja Mills 10, McKenzie Long 9, Hollie Ziegler, 4, Traycee Harper 3, Emmie Ogden 3.

The first quarter ended 15:11 back, but then they took over.

At the beginning of fourth place they were in the lead with 52:37 and held out until the end.

“Bri is a Spokane kid who played in front of local fans for the first time (last year’s game up there was canceled due to COVID),” said Warriors coach Bobbi Hazeltine. “She had a really nice game in front of family and friends. She hit all of her 3s in the second half when we were playing much better.

“Kortney and Miaja continue to play very well. Miaja had a great defensive game (four blocks) and Kortney was really good on both sides. “

WWCC will host the NWAC Crossover next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Warriors play Shoreline on Friday at 7 p.m., Linn-Benton on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Lower Columbia on Sunday at 2 p.m.
