Vancouver man sentenced to 10 years in prison for underage sex sting | Local

A man from Vancouver, Washington, was sentenced to 10 years federal prison after sending explicit text messages and photos to a Benton County deputy sheriff’s office posing as a minor. The man then drove to a scheduled meeting with the teenager across state lines, the US Attorney’s Office in Portland reported.

Daniel Lee Baldie, 35, was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison and 25 years of supervised release by the US District Court.

According to court documents, Baldie sent emails and text messages to a Benton County deputy sheriff’s office posing online as a 13-year-old girl. The texts and emails contained requests for nude photos.

In February law enforcement followed Baldie from his home to a meeting point in Corvallis. There the police, according to the police, admitted that Baldie intended to meet the alleged teenager and drive her back to his apartment. He has been criminally charged with traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual behavior, attempted child pornography production, and coercion and seduction.

The case has been investigated by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It has been prosecuted by Jeffrey Sweet, the U.S. Assistant District Attorney for the Oregon County, and the Benton County District Attorney’s Office.
