Spokane Joseph H. Harrington, Acting US Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington announced that on Tuesday, August 3, members of his office will attend community events held as part of Spokane’s National Night Out Against Crime.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborly fellowship to make our neighborhoods safer and more caring. National Night Out improves the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement agencies while bringing back a real sense of community. In addition, it is a great opportunity to bring law enforcement and the community together in positive circumstances.

“Keeping our communities safe is a top priority for the Department of Justice, as well as state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies across the country,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “Law enforcement is most effective when it has the trust and support of the communities it serves. This is why events like National Night Out are so important and effective; they help bridge the gap between neighbors and their police departments in a positive and informal environment. “
