Update of weather forecast for Spokane snow storm

The winter weather alert is in effect until 6:00 p.m. Thursday and affects much of northeast Washington and northern Idaho

SPOKANE, Washington – After morning snow dusted the northwestern part of the country and more was forecast for the afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather warning for Thursday.

The recommendation runs through 6 p.m. Thursday and affects much of northeast Washington and northern Idaho, including Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, Spokane Valley, Cheney, and Moscow.

According to the NWS, they expect snow to be about one to five inches in total. They also predict it will be tough at times.

Roads, bridges and overpasses could have slippery conditions, according to NWS, and the snow could affect Thursday night commutes. Motorists are advised to drive slowly and be prepared for slippery roads.

The Spokane area is likely to experience some of the coldest temperatures of the season on Friday, with lows in the teenage mornings and a cool afternoon with highs in the top 20s to around 30 degrees.

The next storm comes on Saturday. Although it will initially bring snow, warmer air flowing in will likely turn precipitation into rain, locally limiting the snow to just a few inches. The maximum values ​​are in the middle to the upper 30s.

The Cascades and higher ground of Northern Idaho could see heavy snowfall Saturday, with the heavier snow shifting to the higher ground of the Central Idaho Panhandle Saturday night and Sunday.

More rain and snow are expected on Sunday, with similar highs in the mid to mid-30s.
