Unemployment rate rises to 5.9% as 850,000 jobs added in June – Everett Post

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. employers added 850,000 jobs to their payroll last month, the latest figures released by the Department of Labor on Friday, exceeding economists’ expectations.

Economists had expected more than 700,000 new jobs to be created in June, an increase from the revised 583,000 in May.

The biggest job gains last month, according to the Department of Labor, were in the fields of leisure and hospitality, public and private education, professional and business services, retail and other services.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate rose slightly from 5.8% in May to 5.9% in June.
