(NEW YORK) – Tropical storm Danny made landfall in South Carolina near the Georgia border Monday night after forming in the Atlantic on Monday afternoon.
Danny hit land around 8 p.m. north of Hilton Head on Pritchards Island.
Gusts were up to 40 miles per hour, and the storm was forecast to move west, northwest at a speed of 25 miles per hour.
A tropical storm warning has been issued for the area.
South Carolina and Georgia residents and visitors alike should prepare for winds, up to 3 inches of rain, and a light storm surge.
Rip currents are possible off the Savannah coast, the Chatham Emergency Management Agency warned.
Danny is expected to weaken quickly by morning.
