SPOKANE, Wash. – It will be the second trip this indoor season to Spokane for the Western Oregon University men’s and women’s track and field teams this weekend when they compete in the WSU Open. The Wolves competed in the brand-new The Podium back on Dec. 11 and will be taking a bigger group with them this time around.
WOU will be sending Bethanie Altamirano, Gabe Arce-Torres, Gabriel Burchfield, Katie Chapman, Macy Clemens, Sam Cole, Owen Collins, Justin Conklin, Amity Deters, Luz Garcia, Moana Gianotti, Aaron Hanible, Marlon Harrison, Jessy Hart, Devin Hasher , Caitlin Heldt, Maya Hopwood, Jenelle Hurley, Dustyn McKenney, Kalulusno Ngaida, Ana Popchock, Timothy Rambo, Keeton Sanchez, Brennen Sorah, Deshaun Stevens, Maliyah Thompson, JJ Walker and Mark Warren.
Altamirano opened the indoor season at the UW Preview running in the 200.
Arce-Torres will be making his second trip to Spokane and will be competing in his third indoor meet this season running the 200 after also entering at the UW Preview.
Burchfield will also be competing in his third indoor meet after running in the Spokane and Portland Indoor Meets. Some of his top marks so far this indoor season include 8.88 in the 60 hurdles, 20-1.75 in the long jump and 6-2.75 in the high jump.
Chapman has already competed in three meets this indoor season and will be going to her fourth in Spokane this weekend. Chapman opened the indoor season with her top mark so far in the 800 at Spokane (2:29.28). She also competed in the 4×400 that week. Other top marks include posting a time of 3:12.21 in the 1,000 at the UW Preview and a time of 5:15.85 in the mile at the Portland Indoor.
Clemens also wants to be competing in her fourth meet this indoor season this weekend. So far this year, she posted a season-best mark of 4-11 in the high jump during the first trip to Spokane. Clemens also added a mark of 16-4.25 in the long jump at the UW Preview.
Cole competed in the indoor season for the first time this year last week at the UW Invite. He posted marks of 45-3 in the shot put and 49-1.75 in the weight throw.
Collins has competed in three meets so far this indoor season entering in the shot put and weight throw each time. Some of his top marks so far this indoor season include a distance of 51-3 in the weight throw at the Portland Indoor and a distance of 47-3.75 in the shot put most recently at the UW Invite.
Conklin opened the season at the Spokane Invitational and will be competing for the second time this year back in Spokane this weekend. His marks from the first trip to Spokane include 8.75 in the 60 hurdles and 6-4.75 in the high jump.
Deters posted a top-10 mark in program history in the high jump this past weekend reaching a distance of 5-4.25. She has already competed in four indoor meets this season, entering in the 60 hurdles with a top time so far of 10.16, long jump with a distance of 16-9.75 and shot put.
Garcia will begin her indoor season with the first meet this weekend in Spokane. Last time we saw Garcia, she was competing in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships coming in 107th after placing eighth at the Regional Meet held in Monmouth.
Gianotti has competed in four indoor meets so far this season entering this weekend. Some of her top marks so far this indoor season include hitting a distance of 42-10.25 in the shot put during the first trip to Spokane and hitting a mark of 49-4.25 in the weight throw also in Spokane.
Hanible opened his indoor season at the Portland Indoor competing in both the 400 (51.70) and the 60 hurdles (8.89).
Harrison has competed in three meets this indoor season in the triple jump and long jump. He reached a season-best mark of 20-8 in the long jump at the Portland Indoor and also set his top season mark at the same meet in the triple jump with a distance of 44-3.5.
Hart has seen time in three meets this indoor season running in the 200 and the 4×400. She reached a top time so far in the 200 of 26.59 during the first visit to Spokane.
Hasher has competed in three indoor meets so far this season in the high jump. His top mark so far this indoor season was 6-2.75 during the first visit to Spokane.
Heldt added a top-10 program time in the 5,000 this past weekend crossing at 17:43.91. So far she has competed in three indoor meets, reaching other top marks of 10:19.38 in the 3,000 that happened during the first trip to Spokane.
Hopwood has run in the 60 in four meets this year and also in the 200 once. Her top time so far this indoor season in the 60’s is 7.82 from the first visit to Spokane. During that same meet, Hopwood ran a time of 26.43 in the 200.
Hurley was approaching a new personal-best in the long jump this past weekend at the UW Invite hitting a mark of 18-3.25 to help her earn GNAC Field Athlete of the Week. Hurley has entered in four meets this year with other top marks so far this season in the 60 hurdles of 9.36 at the UW Preview, 5-1 in the high jump during the first trip to Spokane, and she has also competed in the 4×400 and the shot put.
McKenney competed for the first time this indoor season at the UW Preview when he ran in the 800 crossing at 2:04.18.
Ngaida has seen time in three meets this indoor season with some top marks so far this year being 5-2.25 in the high jump at the Portland Indoor and 35-6.75 in the triple jump at the UW Invite.
Popchock has competed in three meets so far this indoor season and has tallied some top marks so far this season of 9.04 in the 60 hurdles at the UW Preview, a time of 7.95 in the 60 during the first visit to Spokane and a mark of 36 -8.25 in the triple jump also in Spokane. All of those marks rank in the top 10 in program history. She also ran a leg of the 4×400 at the UW Preview.
Rambo has competed in three meets so far this indoor season posting top season marks of 1:55.56 in the 800 at the UW Invite and a time of 4:29.42 in the mile during the first visit to Spokane. He also ran a leg of the 4×400 in Spokane.
Sanchez has run in the 800 in three meets so far this indoor season and has the top time in the event so far on the team of 1:53.88 at the UW Invite. He also ran a leg of the 4×400 during the first trip to Spokane.
Sorah has entered in three meets this indoor season posting top marks of 8.74 in the 60 hurdles at the Portland Indoor and a mark of 19-9.5 in the long jump, also at the Portland Indoor.
Stevens has competed in three meets so far this indoor season coming away with top marks of 9.52 in the 60 hurdles during the first trip to Spokane. His season-best distance of 21-10 in the long jump at the UW Preview and he also ran a leg of the 4×400 in Spokane.
Thompson continues to move up the top-10 lists in program history in both the 60 and 60 hurdles. In three meets so far this indoor season, Thompson has top marks of 8.03 in the 60 at the UW Invite and 9.17 in the 60 hurdles at the Portland Indoor.
Walker has competed in three meets so far this indoor season coming away with some season-best marks of 9.03 in the 60 hurdles during the first trip to Spokane, 6-0.75 in the high jump also in Spokane. Some other top marks include 20-1.5 in the long jump at the Portland Indoor and he also ran a leg of the 4×400 and threw the shot put in Spokane.
Warren has entered in two meets so far this indoor season throwing the weight throw each time. He reached a season-best distance of 49-0.75 in the event at the Portland Indoor.
