The women’s march leads to the north-west of the country

SPOKANE, Washington – The annual women’s march returned to Spokane on Saturday to promote procreation and abortion rights along with hundreds of other planned marches across the country.

The downtown Spokane women’s march took place in Riverfront Park as thousands gathered to protest for reproductive rights. The event follows a strict Texas law that prohibits abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. The federal government is trying to stop the measure after the Supreme Court refused to block it.

The U.S. Supreme Court will meet again in a few days, with the future of Roe v. Wade is in question as a Mississippi case moves forward with a hearing scheduled for December.

“Being legal doesn’t mean being accessible and for a lot of people abortion is already out of reach and that means that in some ways it’s a disaster, going away from the people who need it most,” Rachel O. , Executive Director of Women’s March ‘Leary Carmona said.

Women’s March’s mission is to bring about transformative and social change and is a women-led movement that provides intersectional education on a variety of topics and creates new opportunities for those who wish to participate in their local programs.

Carmona said there are more than 650 marches planned in various cities across the country, including smaller towns. The DC event could see up to 10,000 people.

“We’re seeing a lot of energy and especially a lot of energy in the States, which is great because that’s where we need to build that momentum,” added Carmona.
