The track team is split between Spokane and Fresno – The Daily Evergreen

Part of the team will be participating in Buc Scoring and others will be participating in West Coast Relays

The WSU athletics team is again divided into two groups. Many athletes travel to Spokane to compete in Whitworth University’s Buc Scoring, and the others get on a plane to compete in Fresno State’s West Coast Relays.

The WSU has already shown a handful of great performances on Whitworth’s Boppel Track this year, including several first places and personal records.

Newcomer thrower Carolina Ulloa-Daza set a newcomer record for the longest hammer throw in Spokane at the start of the season, which broke the ice for a successful season at Whitworth.

Last weekend the athletics team was in Eugene, Oregon, home of the Oregon Ducks, for the Oregon Relays. The Cougars performed very well, including All-American Senior Hurdler Stephanie Cho who set a meet record.

Cho ran the 400 meter hurdles in a rapid time of 59.75 seconds, which earned her first place. Charisma Taylor, All-American Junior Hurdler, took first place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.72.

Freshman Neema Kimtai set a personal record in the women’s 1500 meter race with a time of 4: 25.41 and won the event by a little more than a second.

The jumpers continued to have a good season in Oregon last week when the second Suzy Pace took first place in the high jump of 1.77 meters. Freshman Kaylee Sowle and sophomore Aislinn Overby took second and third place, respectively.

The men’s team also performed solidly in Oregon, starting with senior Sam Brixey, who won the men’s 110 hurdles with a time of 14.33.

The junior thrower John Kolb took first place in the discus with a mark of 56.16 meters, while his colleague Cougar, newcomer Joey Jensen, took fourth place with a throw of 48.95 meters.

The team that traveled to Oregon last week will likely be similar to the roster heading for Fresno State as it will have a solid day of competition and carry the momentum it has claimed in Oregon.

Don’t forget to see these two teams in action as a team heads for the Buc Scoring Invitational on Whitworth University’s Boppel Track, which starts at 2pm on Friday. The live results of the event can be found on Athletic Timing. The event times can be found in the original schedule.

The West Coast Relays in Fresno, California, at Veterans Memorial Stadium begin at 7:30 am on Friday. The live results can be viewed on the RT Track Scoreboard and the event times can be found in the schedule.
