SPOKANE VALLEY, Washington. – The Spokane Valley Fire Department will donate one of their fire trucks to the city of Malden on Wednesday.

SVFD plans to donate its Pierce Engine, which it retired in 1999. Malden City Mayor Dan Harwood will sign for the donation at the ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.

Malden and the neighboring town of Pine City were devastated by rapid wildfire in September 2020 that destroyed homes, businesses, the town’s fire station and the fire truck.

“We are very excited to be able to help the city of Malden,” said Bryan Collins, chief of the Spokane Valley fire department, in a press release. “If we go into the warmer temperatures and the forest fire season, this fire truck will be a valuable asset for the city of Malden.”

Last December, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources delivered a new fire truck to the city of Malden.

The fire truck will be donated on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the SVFD Training Center in Spokane Valley.
