The small estate affidavit process is an alternative to review in certain circumstances

VANCOUVER – The Clark County Law Library is selling a new self-help form. The small estate affidavit process is an alternative to review in certain circumstances.

The kit includes forms and instructions for transferring the personal property of a Washington resident who died without an estate. These are generally situations where there is no real estate and the value of the property is less than $ 100,000.

Flowcharts help people decide whether they are authorized to use the process, determine who is a “successor” to the process, understand the different types of properties, and explain how the property is distributed.

“We are pleased to offer a resource that is so much more detailed and helpful than any material we had access to before,” said legal librarian Maria Sosnowski. “Hopefully this kit will help after a death, which is usually a very stressful time.”

The kit can be purchased online and the legal library will then mail the kit to the purchaser.
