The bad air in Spokane is expected to stay in place today and for much of the weekend

The air quality in Spokane was still in the unhealthy range on Friday morning.

And it is expected that conditions won’t change much for a couple of days. Relief is also not available after taking a few hours of driving.

Air quality monitors from the Cascades to West Montana measured mostly “unhealthy” air on Friday mornings.

“Given the lack of wind, I wouldn’t expect any significant improvement during the day,” said Greg Koch, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Spokane.

Thursday marked the fourth day of this year that the average air quality for the day in Spokane hit the unhealthy category, according to data from the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency.

A cold front falling over the weekend is likely to help, especially as of Sunday, Koch said.

Temperatures are expected to hit the upper 90s today, 100s on Saturday and the mid 90s on Sunday. However, Monday’s high temperatures are expected to return to the 80s, at least until next Thursday.

Spokane will likely hold its record for most days with temperatures of at least 90 degrees Celsius today. As of Thursday, there were 38 days that hit at least 90. The record is 39 and was set in 1958.
